What is SSD?

SSD is the data storage media in which semiconductor is used for data storage. It is the new, reliable and the most advance technology of data storage media than HDD .There are  many storage devices which is based on the semiconductor chips like  pen drive, memory card etc.

SSD is non-volatile memory that retains their information even when they have no power.

Why SSD is used in place of HDD?

Advantages of SSD :-

  • SSD have no moving parts(so due to high data transfer speed and shocking environment there is minimum possibility of physical problems in the internal parts) but in HDD magnetic disk creates problem because its contains moving part like storage media “magnetic disk ” is continuously  revolving .
  • SSD is quiet during working but HDD is noisy.
  • SSD have no heating problem but HDD becomes heat after high processing work and if they use for a long time it becomes inconsistent due to over heating problem.
  • SSD is more power efficient than HDD.
  • SSD is much faster data access than HDD.

Disadvantage of SSD

Only price is the disadvantage of SSD because its cost is very-very high in comparison to HDD.

  1. You really must have taken some clues from my earlier comment….
Thanks for introducing SSD’s this time.. For the part about cost, I guess it will lower down as the technology becomes more common. People buying new HDDs will have to face the bigger transition effect then.

  2. It’s good but more expensive
