Secure your Desktop Icons and Settings

October 26th, 2009

Sometime naughty friends and colleague always change your desktop icons and settings and you want to save your desktop settings and secure it by changes. So, with the help of registry editor you can secure by implementing simple steps.

1. Click Start → Run and type regedit.

2. Scroll Down to following registry keys- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

In the right pane create a new DWORD Value named NoSaveSettings and modify it’s value to 1. Refresh and restart for the settings to get saved.

Note : If the particular link or path is missing you can create the key for the same name for example if Explorer doesn’t exists in Policies, so you should create a new key (right click on blank space in Policies and type Explorer to create a new key. Please see previous article on blocking view on specific drive where method for creation of DWORD value name and data is clearly defined).
