Those of you planning to build a new PC might want to hold off on starting until Q3 of this year. The introduction of this six core processor is aimed at mainly gamers. The Core i7-970 is the second six core processor launched after the Core i7-980X Extreme Edition. A spokesman from Intel said the Core i7-970 is an attempt to trickle down six-core chips and fast performance from the Extreme Edition to the main Core i7 lineup.i7-970 is priced at $885 in units of 1,000.bigAssuming the report is accurate, the Core i7-970 will run at 3.2GHz with a top per-core speed of 3.46GHz thanks to Turbo Boost. Intel will enable Hyper-Threading, which should fill Windows’ Task Manager with 12 little green line graphs. Also, the CPU will have a 130W thermal envelope, just like the high-end Core i7-980X Extreme Edition is expected to.

Intel has also slashed the prices of the lower- end Core i7-870 processor from $582 to $294. “The price was cut to put the offering in line with the company’s other Core i7 offerings,” added the spokesman. The price of the Xeon X3470 also saw a reduction of 44 percent from $589 to $328.
