There are many cool applications available for Nokia cell phones. However, only those can be installed which are officially signed by Symbian. If you try to install an unsigned applications, the system shows an ‘certificate error’.

But this should not stop you  from installing the applications on your cell phone. These applications can be signed by you. Just follow the steps to sign any unsigned application.

  1. Download the package to be signed.
  2. Go to Symbian Signed website and choose Open Signed Online on the front page (or try this direct link)
  3. Enter the IMEI number of your phone (you can find this by typing *#06# on the phone), your email address, and point to the install package you just downloaded.
  4. Select the capabilities needed for the specific application. If unsure, select all (there’s no harm in doing that).
  5. Fill out the captcha, review the legal agreement, check the box if you accept it, and press send.
  6. Wait for a confirmation mail sent to the email address entered earlier.
  7. Visit the URL in the mail to confirm that the package should be signed.
  8. Wait for another mail telling you that the signing is complete. Visit that URL, and you’ll get the signed package which you can install on your phone.
